See how races are really run

Every furlong of every covered race, timed to the hundredth, then turned into thirteen tabs of analysis, a pace map for tomorrow's racing, two races lined up furlong by furlong, and rules you can back-test in the System Builder. This is the complete guide, with a short video for every feature.

The Sectional Analysis heat map: every runner against every furlong, shaded green (faster than par) through to red (slower)

The Heat Map — the whole field against every section of the Royal Hunt Cup, each cell shaded against that section's par

Read it right

It's all measured against par — not a flat 100

The one thing to understand before everything else. Every figure is judged against the race's par: a ground-adjusted benchmark, calibrated to the actual winning time and adjusted for going, class and weight — so it varies section by section, and sits in the header above every column.

The Finishing Speed % grid with the per-section par in each column header, varying from 100.0% to 97.3%, and cells shaded green where they beat par
  • ✓ Par is shown above each column and changes through the race — here it climbs above 100% mid-race, then falls into the high 90s by the line, because horses naturally slow late.
  • ✓ Green beats par; red falls short of it. The colour is the verdict — you don't even have to read the number.
  • ✓ Finishing Speed % is each horse's closing speed as a percentage of its own race average. So a horse can read below 100% and still beat par at the finish — the mark of a strong, sustained run.

In the Royal Hunt Cup above, the winner Rogue Diplomat finished on 98.4% — under 100, but comfortably past the 97.3% par at the line. The bare result called it a 33/1 shock; the sectionals called it the only horse finishing.

The Analysis Suite

Thirteen tabs of split-time truth on every covered race

Open any past race's result, expand Sectional Analysis, and you have the engine room: heat-mapped grids and charts for every runner at every gate, the ground-adjusted par alongside, and the upgrade angles that show who ran better than they finished.

Trim a busy field to the first three, five or six home, compare any two horses head-to-head, drop the run from the stalls, or switch between seconds, mph and kph — every control runs across all thirteen tabs. Flat races add a fourteenth, Race Tempo.

The Metrics tab: every headline figure for every runner in one colour-coded table — upgrades, acceleration times, run-out speed, top speed and stride data

Before The Race · Sectional Profile

The whole field's stride DNA, on one screen

A racecard tab that draws every runner's stride and sectional snapshot from its most recent race of the same type — so you're always comparing like with like, before a stride is run.

  • ✓ Average stride length, cadence, peak stride and finishing speed for every runner
  • ✓ A Distance DNA verdict and the day's draw & pace sweet spot built in
  • ✓ Tap any runner for a furlong-by-furlong stride map of that race
  • ✓ Pace Curves — how today's course and distance is usually run, against par, with another course and distance and a runner's recent runs laid over it
  • ✓ Course stride fingerprint — the stride range this course usually sees, with every runner's own average stride placed on it

Before The Race · Pace Map

How the race will be run, before it's run

Every runner classified Front Runner to Held Up from where it has actually raced in its last ten runs with sectional data — weighted to recent form and sharpened by a measured Gate Speed Score.

  • ✓ Spot the lone leader, the pace duel, the hold-up horse who needs luck
  • ✓ Early and late average positions show who finishes their races out
  • ✓ A caution flag whenever there are fewer than three runs to go on
Predicted Running Styles: every runner grouped by likely style with Gate Speed Score and early/late positions

Before The Race · 3D Pace Preview

Watch the early pace before the stalls open

Press 3D Pace Preview beside the Predicted Running Styles and the pace map comes to life: the field breaks from the stalls in draw order, every runner moves to its predicted early position, and the picture stops on the likely shape of the race.

  • ✓ Built from each runner's running style, Gate Speed Score, ten-run pace profile and the draw, with the pace forecast setting the tempo
  • ✓ See who leads, who has cover, and who will need the race to fall right
  • ✓ Broadcast, Drone, Finish Line, Onboard and Free cameras; click a horse to follow it
  • ✓ Badged as a prediction — an illustration of the pace map, never timing data

The Wider Read · Meeting Pace

A whole card's pace picture, at a glance

Read after the racing: the day's overall pace and draw bias up top, then every race summarised with its own pace label and a colour-coded bar of how each furlong ran against par. The fastest way to see which races the pace shaped — and how the whole card was riding.

  • ✓ Meeting-level read — a Closer's Day, a High Draw Bias — in two lines
  • ✓ Per-race pace labels and a colour-coded furlong-by-furlong pace bar
  • ✓ Jump straight to the races whose pace scenario stands out

On Every Racecard

Distance DNA, Full of Running & sectional form lines

  • ✓ Distance DNA — a stride-based answer to the oldest question in the form book: does this horse want further, or shorter? It compares a horse's own cadence to the winners' at the trips it has been running.
  • ✓ Full of Running — a beaten horse that crossed the line with plenty left (a top-2 run-out speed and a faster-than-par finish) wears a green FoR LTO badge until it runs again. These win about 16% next start against a 10% baseline.
  • ✓ Sectional form lines — one click swaps a horse's form to its sectional read of every past run: Race Pace, running style, positions gained, the adjusted finish and Max Upgrade, plus stride length and cadence for every tracked run, so you can read them down the column without opening each race.
  • ✓ Every run on the profile — the Runs card on a horse's profile lists its whole career; switch on Sectionals and every run carries its sectional read, newest first.

Two Races · Race Compare

Line two races up, furlong by furlong

Pick any two races and every runner from both is ranked over the same stretch of ground. The first race is the benchmark: any runner from the second that ran within a length of one of its horses is picked out, with the horse it matched and where that horse finished. It is the quickest way to find a handicapper that has already run with Group or Graded horses.

  • ✓ Start the clock from any marker, and read finishing speed and finishing speed against par over that stretch
  • ✓ A chart of furlong times, the running gap in lengths, or each furlong against its own race's par
  • ✓ A like-for-like check above the list: course, day, going, code, and how differently the two races were paced

Open Race Compare

Race Compare: the September Stakes and a Class C handicap at Kempton ranked together from a mile and three furlongs out, with the handicappers that ran within a length of a Group horse highlighted

Race Compare — Tiernan, rated 85, ran the last mile and three furlongs half a length quicker than the Group 3 winner Pride Of Arras

After The Race · Race Tempo

Was the gallop strong or steady? It says so in one line

Every Flat race with sectional times now carries a reading of how it was run: how fast the leaders went over the first half of the race against the usual for that course and trip, with the ground allowed for. It sits above the tabs as one of five grades, from Dawdled to Strongly run.

  • ✓ The usual comes from at least 20 races over the same course and trip in the three years before, and the line says how many
  • ✓ A Race Tempo tab gives every runner's position at halfway, a short note on how it raced against that gallop, and its Spread: the gap between its best and worst furlong against par
  • ✓ The same reading sits beside every Flat run in the sectional form lines, as a Tempo pill and a Spread column, and beside each race's pace label on Meeting Pace, and as two tables on every profile's Breakdown tab
  • ✓ In the System Builder: rules for how the last race was run, the horse's note against that gallop and its Spread, which find today's qualifiers, plus Breakdowns tables for each
  • ✓ Flat races only: over jumps, the early gallop says far less about how a race is won

  • ✓ The flags: Hard-Luck Story and Full of Running last time
  • ✓ The horse itself: average stride length and cadence, Gate Speed and Distance DNA
  • ✓ Race Tempo: how the last race was run, how the horse raced against that gallop, and its Spread (Flat)
  • ✓ Or type a sentence into Ask and the builder turns it into rules for you to check and run
